Introducing Matias Møllenbach and the OBA Soap Collection

There is a distinct appeal to objects that take ordinary, everyday functions and treat them with the precision and reverence of fine art. At Shop Dessein Parke, we are constantly drawn to pieces that challenge our perception of routine homewares, bridging the gap between rigorous craftsmanship, striking visual language, and tactile joy. And this philosophy sits at the heart of our newest studio acquisition: Matias Møllenbach.

Rooted in Craft, Free from Trends

Founded by the Danish designer of the same name, a graduate of Central Saint Martins and the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Matias Møllenbach’s independent Copenhagen studio is defined by a deep commitment to material exploration. Working closely alongside artisanal craftspeople, every piece is shaped entirely by hand, quietly sidestepping the fleeting cycles of mass-market trends.

This year marked a notable evolution for the studio at Copenhagen's premier design showcase, 3 Days of Design. Moving away from conventional gallery spaces, Møllenbach took over Barberen, an iconic local barbershop, transforming the historic interior into an immersive, custom "Soap Shop" installation that immediately caught the attention of international design press.

The OBA Soap Series

The centerpiece of that exhibition, and our newest arrival at Shop Dessein Parke, is the OBA series.

A masterclass in geometric balance, each piece features a translucent, spherical soap resting natively upon a precision-cut, cube-shaped resin base. Available in a rich spectrum of tones, from the earthy depth of Terralis and Rosevale to the vibrant clarity of Aloe Vera, Citralis, and Papaya, the collection functions as much more than a bathroom utility:

• Sculptural Presence: The striking contrast between the smooth sphere and the sharp, architectural block creates a deliberate geometric statement for the basin or powder room.

• Tactile Ritual: Infused with subtle, natural scents, they elevate a simple daily handwashing habit into a grounding sensory experience.
